Secret that can't be told
The inspiration behind this project stems from numerous media reports and videos that highlight the prevalent issue of domestic violence. Despite being a widespread problem, many victims are often too ashamed to come forward and seek help, leading them to suffer in silence. This issue was exacerbated by the COVID-19 lockdowns, which resulted in many victims being trapped at home with their abuser. To bring attention to this pressing matter, I designed a collection of jewellery with the goal of raising awareness about domestic violence.
My research into domestic violence showed that, unfortunately, even major organizations like the World Health Organization (WHO) primarily focus on domestic violence against women. However, it is important to note that domestic violence affects people of all ages, genders, and backgrounds. With this in mind, my jewellery designs aim to encompass the full scope of domestic violence and its impact on all victims, regardless of their age or gender. These designs are intentionally gender- and age-neutral, to better represent the suffering of all victims of abuse.
